A CAMP:
NICOLA SIRKIS (Indochine) & MARILYN MANSON:
SERJ TANKIAN (System Of A Down) & CHRIS CORNELL (Audioslave)
"On June 01, while the System Of A Down Concert at Bercy was coming to and end, Saez was prolonging this rock night with a surprise showcase at the Club Néo, rue de Ponthieu, close to the Champs-Élysées.
Sitting next to Chris Cornell, Damien finally takes a seat close to a mixer and plugs in his acoustic guitar. 'Light the Way', 'Fake Plastic Trees' by Radiohead and an ominous version of 'Marie ou Marilyn', ending with the lyrics of 'Break on Through' by The Doors, impress and show the oustanding charism's sheer enormity of this singer, in an intimate ambience which is at the same time somehow unreal, surreal, underlined by his lively voice, sometimes close to the state of trance. Models are listening, beautiful people, Garou or Abel of 2Be3 are mingling just like Yann from Mass Hysteria or... Serj Tankian himself of SOAD arrives at the beginning of the set! Then Chris Cornell joins Damien for a magic duo, covering U2, until he finishes with a rather tender version of 'Hotel California' by The Eagles."

2002: EXTRACT FROM A CHAT WITH FRENCH SINGER RAPHAEL HAROCHE
Kily: You are often compared with Saez, what do you think about it?
Raphael: Ah, Saez. Well, this is called an answer.
First, most journalists are content with the things their workmates have said. I think, what Saez and I once had in common were Radiohead and Noir Désir. Full stop.
Gée: I think Saez and you have nothing in common, you have more tactfullness, more emotions...
Raphael: Well, now I think, we've chosen totally different ways. And I'm happy about it. I've listened to his recent album and because I'm a fan of (Jacques) Brel, I unfortunately couldn't accept the comparison of Brel with Saez. Saez's lyrics are naive ad nauseam and in my opinion the boy can't sing. There's nothing more to add.
(...)
Jessica: What do you think about Damien Saez's latest album?
Raphael: Rather than saying that Saez is a donkey, I will tell you who I like: Noir Désir, Renaud, Ferré, (Jean-Louis) Aubert, (Jacques) Brel, Mano Solo, Barbara. Very classical indeed, but I think those are real artists.
Bionic: Why is Saez a donkey?
Raphael: His lyrics are stupid, that's all. I really like (Yann) Tiersen...
Cyprien: Saez has made a lot of great songs.
Raphael: But if you sing something like "Sexe" or "Solution", then that's not of any value, the rest of his songs are ok but nothing more, I don't like his voice.
I believe he could be a very "efficient guy", who surely could do great things if just his surrounding area would be better.

Interviewer: What do you think of the comparison with Saez?
Raphael: I don't mind. But surely it was drawn by people who don't hear that much music. I don't have anything against him, I've also been compared to Chimène Baddi and I didn't mind! Generally, I quite like all these singers. It's not really the kind of music I listen to or I'd buy, but once somebody sings and provokes emotions by doing so, I respect him.

Interviewer: Couldn't Saez be your heir, your son?
Nicola: You're a bit harsh, my brother, not my son!
Interviewer: With 21 years, Indochine could have a son, couldn't it?
Nicola: Well yes. I really liked "Jeune et con", becaused they reproached him with puerility like they reproached me with it when I was his age. However, I think he's a bit too "academic". When I'm listening to "Fils de France", I have the feeling that I'm 15 years old and writing these lyrics somewhere in my folder.
Interviewer: And yet "Sexe" is very provocative...
Nicola: If I had to choose between "Sexe" and "Savoure le rouge", I would take "Savoure le rouge", because "Lêche-moi où il faut et parle-moi d'humidité"... well... I've met him at Plus XXX when we were there and he was a really cool guy, very friendly, though they say that he is insupportable. Besides, his album "God Blesse" isn't that bad. Unfortunately he's at Universal, who try to personate him as the martyr of French rock: "Sexe: forbidden on all channels all over the world!", "Download 'Fils de France', the anti-Le Pen hymn".
I think this marketing is too orchestrated with all the advertising on the radio, TV... There's no spontanity. Sadly, I think his album is breaking down. He has to save himself very very fast. I don't believe he could be my brother, nor my son, but I'd like to do something together with him: A concert, a duet...

Interviewer: To which persons do you refer in the song "Ce que tu es"?
Koma: The two verses are split up in two. In fact, each demi-verse is adressed to one or more persons in particular. The first part of the first verse refers to Damien Saez, whom I hate with all my heart, or to Kyo as well.
(Below there's the first verse of the song "Ce que tu es")
CE QUE TU ES WHAT YOU ARE
Etre arrogant et prétentieux Being ignorant
En plus d'être ignorant And above all arrogant and egotistic
Un jour ton masque tombera bas One day your mask will fall down
Trop cupide Too greedy
Ce que tu dis est dangereux What you say is not only stupid
En plus d'être stupide But also dangerous
Comme ton idéologie Like your fanatic ideology
Fanatique
